Geraldine Ann McAuliffe of Mahopac, NY, passed away on February 19, 2023 at the age of 81. She was born on July 27, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. Gerry is the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (neé Gallagher) Ashe. On August 26, 1967, she married John McAuliffe at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Brooklyn, and they were blessed with four children.
Mom was known for so many things: her beautiful smile, her big blue eyes, her suntanned complexion; but most of all, mom was known for her huge heart. She was a wonderful wife to our dad, Jack, and gave him the best years of her life with her charm, her wit, and let’s not forget, her feistiness! She was an extraordinary mother, going to every basketball game, every school event, every theme park, but not for herself, for her kids. She only wanted the best for us and devoted every moment of her time making that happen. Now that’s not to say that we didn’t put a few or more gray hairs on mom’s head. Most of all, mom was an amazing grandmother. We’ve never seen anyone light up the way mom did around her grandchildren; she loved each and every one of her grandchildren with unconditional love. Her trips to Disney World; her going to every basketball game and dance recital; and her picking them up from school and cooking them her famous mashed potatoes and steak dinner. Mom had a sweet tooth, buying the grandkids their favorite ice-cream flavors topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry, of course. Mom was extremely generous. She bought the kids whatever PlayStation or Xbox was the latest craze! Mom was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, and best friend, too! She was truly a one-of-a-kind human being! We want to say that we will miss mom dearly, but she is not gone: she lives on in each and every one of her children and grandchildren, and for this, we are truly grateful.
Geraldine is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Catherine Notz (Matt) and Maureen McAuliffe; sons, Thomas (Tania) and Jay; grandchildren, Amy, Alexandra, Jack, William, Aliana, Cassandra, and Connor; her granddog Charlie; and her siblings Joseph Ashe, Maureen Ashe, Margaret Magistro, and Kathleen Windram. She was predeceased by her siblings Tom Ashe, Nora Ashe, and Eileen Spies.
All are welcome to attend a memorial visitation to celebrate Gerry’s everlasting life on Friday, February 24th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 25th at 10 AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac. Private cremation was held prior to services.
