I realize now that I have met a man who is so brave and able to be dignified in the face of a terrifying illness. He was also surrounded by an amazing family who showed such love and compassion for him. It was an honor for me to witness a small part of his struggle and see how much love he was wrapped in every step of the way. I am sure that was what gave him the courage to get through this.

My sympathies to you Joan and to all of the family. Howard was a cornerstone in my life. I felt deeply connected to him from the day we first sat together in law school in September, 1965.Howard was to me, the most practical, intelligent and caring lawyer. Best of all, he knew how to be a friend. His friendship changed my life. He was generous, caring and direct. HIs invitation to join him in practice in Carmel allowed me to leave the City and enjoy the last 38 years in this wonderful community, working and living close to home and being able to watch my children grow up close by. I am deeply saddened by his passing and send you prayers that when your time of grieving has passed, that you will be left with only sweet memories to nourish you and all the family through the years ahead.
