Lucy Sanseverino, of Palm Coast, FL, formerly of Mahopac, NY, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2023. She was born on November 5, 1938, in Stigliano, Italy to Rocco and Angela Iosca (Cilento). She married, John Sanseverino on November 12, 1952 in Stigliano, Italy. They soon after came to America where they settled in Yonkers, NY. The couple moved to Yorktown Heights in 1967, before moving to Mahopac, NY in 1969, and finally settling in Palm Coast, FL in 2003.
Lucy was a devoted wife, loving Mother and Grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. She worked extremely hard to raise five children, selflessly always putting their needs above her own. She considered her grandchildren her greatest achievements and was extremely proud of them. She showered them with unconditional love.
Lucy will fondly be remembered for her warm, vibrant personality and fun-loving spirit. She had many life-long friends which is a great testimony to her nature and her loyalty as a friend. She was a fabulous cook. She loved to entertain and welcomed everyone into her home with love and kindness. You never left her home before being well fed and without enjoying a good glass of wine. If you were a guest in her home, you would never want to leave. You just enjoyed being in her presence and being surrounded by her warmth and hospitality.
The final months of her life were spent in Assisted Living, where she made many new friends and enjoyed going to “Happy Hour” on Fridays and playing Bingo several times a week — especially if she was winning! She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten, by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is predeceased by her husband John, and by her son, John Jr., her sister, Rose, and brother, Vincent. She is survived by her four children, Angela Pontorno (Paul), Frank (Connie), Rocco (Grace), and Michael (Liz), her 6 adored grandchildren, her sister Antonietta Morelli, her brother Nicola, and her dear nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 27th from 4-8 PM at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28th at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac, with interment to follow at Union Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164
