Michael Joseph Bergin, a longtime resident of Mahopac, NY passed away on January 15, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born in Mount Vernon, NY on November 10, 1926, the son of Michael and Margaret Sharkey Bergin.Michael was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and the NY State Police Academy in Albany, NY. He served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII and was a parishioner of St. John The Evangelist Church in Mahopac.He retired in 1969 as a Zone Sergeant with Troop K of the New York State Police based in Tarrytown, NY.On December 1, 1956 he married Sylvia C. Tojdowski in Westmere, NY. In addition to Sylvia, he is survived by his sons, Kevin Bergin of Hyde Park, NY and Keith Bergin and his wife Christina of Dover Plains, NY, his daughter Maureen C. Bergin of VA and his sister, Sr. Margaret Rita Bergin, O.P., a Dominican Sister based in Sparkill, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Sr. Maureen Michael Bergin, O.P., a Dominican Sister of the Sick Poor.Visiting will be held on Monday January 18 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 19 at 11 am at St. John The Evangelist Church in Mahopac with interment to follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery in Mahopac Falls.
