Owen moved to Co. Donegal, Ireland with his family as a child where he was raised. In time, he made his way to France and returned to the United States in 1986. Owen was an avid fan of the New York Jets.

Family was the most important part of Owen’s life, especially spending time with his children. A self-employed carpenter by trade, he enjoyed little projects that he could include his children in, such as building a “Fairy House” with his daughters, teaching his son and daughter how to drive and how to use power tools safely. Owen coached lacrosse and enjoyed teaching not only his own children but others too.

On October 2, 1999 he married Joanne Diver in Co. Donegal. In addition to Joanne, he is survived by his children, Finian, Mia, Roma and Kyia of Mahopac; his parents, Vincent and Susan McConnell and his brothers, John and Vinny, all of Co. Donegal, Ireland.

Visiting will be held on Friday, November 18 from 2-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19 at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY. Private cremation services will follow.

Owen was the nicest man I've ever met, he was pure Gentle man. The type of man that would give you the shirt off his back, I am a better man for knowing him. I have often thought that I wish I could be more like Owen. He was too good for New York, but in cold city knowing Owen was like finding the fire, seen some warmth and genuine people is hard to find. I have never met anyone like him, I doubt I will ever meet someone so nice and genuine like him. They saying of never speak ill of the dead, I'm the type of person who would just not speak Rather than lie and pretend. But with Owen he will walk in the gates of Heaven and automatically be given his wings. I'm sure of it. I'm happy he knew for the past few years, because it gave him time to spend with family and friends and able to say good bye. We all hoped for the best, unfortunately it did not happen. I am happy to be able to say that I knew the man. And send my condolences to his family.
