Serafina Ann Petrera passed away on July 18th 2022 at age 84. Her children were at her side when she passed. She was born in Manhattan, New York on May 29th 1938 to Nicolo and Benedetta Baviensi. She was married to Philip Petrera on October 14th 1956 and was married 31 years. She was pre deceased by her husband Philip and her siblings Rosalie “Mary”, Salvatore and Joseph. She is survived by her three children: Maria Grace (William) Conklin, Benedetta (David) Marsac, and Frank Petrera; her grandchildren Jennifer (Jared) Leiman, Emily Conklin, Frank Petrera Jr., and Nicholas Petrera; and her great grandchildren Madelyn Grace, Joshua, and Caroline Leiman.
Sarah worked at the Mahopac Hardware, The Affiliated Ambulance Company in Mohegan, and she worked at Guideposts in Carmel, NY for over 20 years where she was a customer service liaison.
Sarah loved her family with a passion. She loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas. She enjoyed traveling when she was younger whether it was going to Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree, England to get a glimpse of the Queen, or to Rome to see the Coliseum; she was always up for an adventure. Serafina was very proud of her Sicilian heritage.
Sarah was a wonderful cook whether it was making sauce with meatballs on Sunday or cucchidatta for Christmas. She always loved to feed anyone who would stop by. In the words of her great granddaughter Madelyn: “she was the best great grandmother ever!” She will be greatly missed by her friends and family alike.
Visiting will be held on Friday, July 22 from 3-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 23 at 11 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Mahopac with entombment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery’s Shrine of Memories mausoleum.
